Head of Maintenance / Chief Engineer Job in Kenya - Swahili Beach

Location: Ukunda, Diani

Our client, a five-star luxury hotel located in Ukunda, Diani, invites applications from qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Head of Maintenance / Chief Engineer.

Position Summary

The Head of Maintenance / Chief Engineer will be responsible for the overall management, operation, and maintenance of all engineering systems within the hotel to ensure safety, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and five-star guest experience standards. The position reports directly to the General Manager and is a member of the hotel’s senior management team.

Key Responsibilities


  • Oversee maintenance and operation of all hotel engineering systems including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, generators, lifts, fire safety systems, kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, DOSH, fire safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and operational risk.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop the maintenance team and external contractors.
  • Prepare and manage the departmental budget and control maintenance-related costs.
  • Coordinate inspections, audits, certifications, and liaison with regulatory authorities.
  • Support refurbishment projects, capital works, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide regular technical, safety, and compliance reports to the General Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in engineering or maintenance operations.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a 4- or 5-star hotel or large hospitality facility.
  • Strong knowledge of Kenyan occupational safety, fire safety, and labour regulations.
  • Proven leadership, budgeting, and risk management capabilities.
