Cost Accountant Job in Kenya (80-150K)

Our client is a leading manufacturer and producer of premium quality, aluminum beverage cans seeking to hire a to hire a Cost Accountant who will ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation and variance analysis while providing management with reliable cost data and information that aid informed decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Analysis and Management


  • Participates in month-end closing activities including analysis of COGM, COGS and inventory journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Conducts month-end stock taking exercise of all inventory items and generate variance report.
  • Provides support to operation team in the analysis of materials usage variances.
  • Creates and maintain cost estimates for finished and semi-finished goods in SAP.
  • Make use of physical inventory process in SAP to update stock variance after approval.
  • Partners with financial planning and analysis and operations teams to coordinate budgeting and forecasting, including materials, labour and overhead expense forecasting, standard cost setting, etc.
  • Reconciles daily production and materials usage variance with production, QC and planning team.
  • Assists in setting up yearly standard costs estimates including material, labour and overhead rates.
  • Review actual overhead absorbed into finished products and compare with planned overhead monthly.
  • Evaluates and compares standard costs with actual costs in SAP to ensure accuracy of the data.
  • Monitors price and production variances and proposes standard cost updates.
  • Maintains and improves processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation
  • Carry out cost roll-up whenever the bill of materials is updated, new products are introduced or when there is a change in the components of the bills of materials.
  • Monitors all inventory prices in the material ledger and reports any abnormality.
  • Prepares maintenance cost analysis report monthly.
  • Other tasks as may be assigned.

Inventory Management

  • Analyses inventory valuation and inventory cost roll up
  • Oversees cycle counting process and drives physical inventory process.

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Prepares materials usage variance report with reasons for the variances.
  • Prepares inventory schedules monthly
  • Prepare spoilage report monthly
  • Prepares maintenance cost analysis reports

Integrated Management System

  • Documents, implements and maintains the requirements of the Quality, Food Safety, Environment, Health and Safety management systems.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any related discipline
  • Relevant professional certifications e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountants of Kenya(CPA-K), Association of Certified and Chartered Accountants (ACCA) or its equivalent is required
  • MBA or a Masters’ in related discipline will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly organized, attention to details and keen tracking of issues.
  • Good management skills to work with and develop subordinates.
  • Person of integrity.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with timely updates on progress.
