Main Purpose of the job:
The primary purpose of this role is to develop,
manage, and monitor the implementation of postgraduate and undergraduate
programmes. The position involves active engagement in operational
administration, curriculum review and development, performance and quality
assurance management, and enhancing the accreditation of academic programmes by
relevant professional bodies and the Commission of University Education. The
role requires collaboration with the Head of Department to ensure the efficient
and effective delivery of teaching in alignment with University strategy,
policy, and procedures. Additionally, the lecturer will undertake research
activities and participate in departmental and institutional enterprise
activities. Mentorship of students and staff to foster leading-edge practices
in the learning environment is a central responsibility.
Main Activities and Responsibilities
- Provide academic leadership in their subject area;
- Ensure that Programme area focuses on delivering a
high-quality student experience that maximises student retention and
progression and widens participation;
- Lead the enhancement of teaching and learning in the Programme
area, particularly in relation to curriculum design, course development
and assessment, such that the student experience and learning is
optimised;
- Lead on the review and development of new curricula to promote
growth of the department.
- Engage with relevant external stakeholders in validation of
the programmes for respective boards and regulatory bodies for adherence.
- Engage with the industry for practicum and research projects
to ensure holistic development of our students.
- Provide administrative support to the department including
marketing of the programs, research project supervision, and student
career mentorship.
Minimum qualifications for the position of a Lecturer
- An earned PhD in Public health/Community
health/Epidemiology/Nutrition or equivalent degree qualification in the
relevant field from an accredited and recognized university
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the
university level as a lecturer or six (6) years research/industry
experience;
- Must be a registered member of Public Health Officers and
Technicians Council (PHOTEC).
- A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a lecturer
or equivalent; at least twenty-four (24) of them from refereed scholarly
journals;
- Supervised to completion at least three (3) postgraduate
students as a lecturer or equivalent;
- Attracted research funds as a lecturer or equivalent will be
an added advantage.
Skills and experience essential:
- Evidence of training experience at a university level.
- Evidence of development and curriculum in Public health/
Community health;
- Demonstrable evidence of administrative experience;
- Demonstrable proficient in computer packages;
- Evidence of ability to train using virtual or Learning
Management Systems (LMS)
