Communications Officer Job in Kenya - Matibabu Foundation

Matibabu Foundation is a registered health facility based in Siaya County. Our focus is to improve the quality, affordability and accessibility of healthcare with more attention to the women and their families through offering affordable, facilities- based health care with extensive laboratory and pharmaceutical services.

We are seeking a dedicated, creative, and results-driven Communications Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing both internal and external communication strategies, enhancing the organization’s visibility, and ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across all platforms.

This role involves active participation in content creation, media engagement, event coordination, and documenting and disseminating project achievements to diverse stakeholders.

Position: Communications Officer

Reporting to: Projects Manager


Key Duties and Responsibilities

Content Creation & Management

  • Develop, edit, publish, and disseminate high-quality content, including articles, success stories, press releases, newsletters, and social media posts.

Digital & Social Media Engagement

  • Manage and update the organization’s website and social media platforms.
  • Monitor digital trends and analytics to increase brand awareness and audience engagement.

Media & Public Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets.
  • Respond to media and public inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Event Support

  • Support the planning, coordination, promotion, and documentation of events, workshops, and community outreach activities.

Branding & Documentation

  • Ensure consistent application of organizational branding guidelines across all communication materials.
  • Maintain a well-organized digital archive of communication materials, project milestones, and key activities.

Strategy, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Support the development and implementation of communication strategies.
  • Track and analyze communication metrics (e.g., website traffic, social media engagement) and prepare reports to assess effectiveness.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

Experience

  • At least 2–3 years of professional experience in communications or a related role.
  • Prior experience within the NGO or humanitarian sector is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent written, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Ability to capture compelling photographs during field activities, events, and community engagements for storytelling and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • High level of creativity, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
