Position Summary
Reporting
to the Finance Manager, the Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate
financial records, preparing statutory and management reports, managing cash
flows, and ensuring compliance with SACCO and regulatory standards. The ideal
candidate will be hands-on, analytical, and dependable with strong technical
and communication skills.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Accounting
& Bookkeeping
- Prepare accurate and timely financial
statements, budgets, and SASRA reports.
- Maintain the general ledger and post all
financial transactions correctly.
- Handle daily bookkeeping and ensure accurate
data entry into the accounting system.
- Manage and reconcile all bank and M-Pesa
accounts on a monthly basis.
Financial
Management & Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual
management reports for decision-making.
- Monitor cash flows, loans, and fund utilization
to support efficient operations.
- Support budget preparation and financial
forecasts in collaboration with management.
- Analyze variances and advise management on
corrective actions.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure full compliance with SASRA, KRA, and
Sacco Societies Act reporting requirements.
- Prepare and file statutory returns, including
VAT, PAYE, NSSF, and NHIF, accurately and on time.
- Support internal and external audits and
implement control improvements as advised.
- Maintain proper documentation and records in
line with regulatory and internal audit standards.
Payroll
& Member Accounts
- Process payroll accurately and ensure timely
statutory deductions and remittances.
- Maintain accurate member records, loan accounts,
and savings accounts.
- Support reconciliation of member contributions
and disbursements to ensure accuracy.
Other
Responsibilities
- Assist in policy implementation and recommend
financial best practices.
- Provide input for system upgrades or automation
of financial processes.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance
Manager from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
- CPA (K) qualification (mandatory).
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance,
Business Administration, or Co-operative Management (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in accounting,
preferably within a SACCO or financial institution.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and
accounting software.
- Understanding of Sacco policies, procedures, and
regulatory frameworks.
