Finance Manager Job in Kenya - AIC Kapsowar Mission Hospital

AIC Kapsowar Mission Hospital is a 154-bed teaching and referral facility located in Elgeyo Marakwet County that delivers Christ-centered, compassionate health care to patients from all parts of Kenya. The Hospital performs over 3,300 surgical procedures per year, sees over 45,000 outpatients and has a medical training college with over 400 students. Its owned and operated by Africa Inland Church (AIC) – Kenya.

We are seeking to recruit value-based mission driven individual with a high degree of professionalism to fill the position of Finance Manager. The individual must have the right values, behaviors and attitudes that match those of AIC Kapsowar Mission Hospital. The individual must also have the experience, skills, and initiative to support the expansion efforts and the improvement of the hospital’s financial systems and processes to enable enhanced reporting and management decision making.
S/he will be a member of the Hospital Senior Management Team and report to the Hospital Director. The Finance Manager is expected to be proactive and collaborative, working closely with the Hospital Senior Management Team and all other members of the Hospital Staff to advance the Hospital’s strategic plan and related initiatives and operations.

Key Responsibilities are:


  • Work in close cooperation with the Hospital Director to ensure that an appropriate financial policy framework is in place to enable effective financial decision making. Continually review and update the finance manuals and policy documents to ensure best practices are adopted and compliance with the strategy and the present challenges
  • Contribute to the preparation, regular updates, and implementation of the strategic plan
  • Help lead the preparation and close monitoring of the annual budgets and related financial forecasts.
  • Coordinate and guide Senior Management and Heads of Departments in the preparation and evaluation of departmental annual budgets and consolidate the same into a Hospital-wide budget
  • Ensure formulation and implementation of departmental plans in line with the hospital objectives
  • Build in systems and procedures for timely and active reporting of performance against budget at the Departmental and overall Hospital levels.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control systems and procedures, including leading initiatives to improve and strengthen the processes and tools relating financial processes, systems, and controls.
  • Maintain records to meet legal and tax requirements and to measure both the inputs and the outcomes of the operations. Focus includes financial accounting, management accounting, forecasting, budgeting, and control systems.
  • Establish, monitor, and actively report performance indicators to various levels of management and the Board.
  • Provide financial and corporate advice to Senior Management, the Board and its Committees.
  • Maintain effective cash flow and treasury management including actively reporting and managing organizational cash flows and cash forecasting.
  • Create and maintain good and effective working relations with banks, investment managers, pension advisers, auditors, statutory bodies and key corporate clients.
  • Implement capital expenditure projects and asset acquisitions and maintain an up to date assets register.
  • Oversee effective performance management of staff in the department and identify training needs
  • Identify procurement needs of the department and collaborate with the procurement department to effectively and timely meet departmental needs
  • Review, redesign, and manage the implementation of effective front office systems for admission and discharge of patients, proper recording and billing, collection of all monies due, and institution of appropriate recovery action on any outstanding debts.
  • Actively lead efforts to appropriately maximize the amount and timing of recoveries from the Social Health Authority (SHA), corporate and other insurance programs.

Person Specifications

  • Must be a practicing Christian willing to adhere to, abide by and sign the Statement of Faith of A.I.C Kenya.
  • Master’s Degree in Business/Project Management/Economics/Finance or related field
  • Bachelor’s in business administration, commerce, finance or related field;
  • Professional qualifications in CPA (K), ACCA, ACA or any other recognized professional accounting qualification;
  • Should be a member of ICPAK or equivalent internationally recognized professional body
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience out of which five (5) must have been in a management role in a similar organization.
  • Should have thorough knowledge of the relevant industry/sector as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting the relevant sector. Extensive experience in a mission hospital environment is a strong plus
  • Must demonstrate high level of integrity
  • Should be result oriented with ability to deliver desired outcomes
  • Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages, Accounting Soft wares as well as ERP
  • Knowledge of the SHA program is a strong positive
