The job holder will be responsible for undertaking information and communication technology planning and development for the University. The Head of ICT is expected to be multifaceted, combining technical expertise, leadership abilities, strategic vision, and an understanding of the unique needs of the academic environment.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Develop and
implement an ICT strategy aligned with the university’s goals.
- Lead diverse IT
teams, fostering collaboration, and ensuring effective performance.
- Manage
large-scale ICT transformations, including technology adoption and process
improvement.
- Ensure the
delivery of high-quality ICT services, including network infrastructure,
application support, and help desk services.
- Work with
academic, administrative, and external stakeholders to meet their ICT
needs.
Technical Lead
- Operate modern
IT infrastructure, including cloud computing, networking, and data center
management.
- Implement
robust cybersecurity policies, risk management, and compliance with data
protection regulations.
- Implement
technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML),
IoT, and blockchain to drive innovation in academic and operational
processes.
- Integrate
multiple systems and platforms, ensuring seamless data flow across
university departments.
- Operate
Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, or Canvas
for online learning.
- Support
research computing and data storage activities.
- Enhance student
experience, such as mobile apps, e-portals, and virtual learning
environments.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree
in Computer Science or Information Systems or related fields from an
accredited and recognised institution.
- PhD in Computer
Science or Information Systems or related fields is an added advantage.
- B.Sc. in
Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software
Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or
any other relevant field from an accredited and recognised institution.
- Industry
recognized certifications such as: Project Management, Cybersecurity,
Cloud Technologies, Microsoft Azure certifications, or Google Cloud
certifications.
- At least 8
years of work experience, with 2 years working at a senior management
level in a university or similar institution.
Skills
- Strong
analytical and critical thinking skills to address complex IT challenges.
- Ability to
explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and create buy-in
for IT initiatives.
- Agility to
respond to rapidly changing technology landscapes and emerging trends.
- Competence in
making data-driven decisions that balance cost, performance, and long-term
value.
- Experience in
preparing and managing ICT budgets.
- Ability to
evaluate the ROI of technology investments and ensure efficient resource
allocation.
