Bartender Job in Kenya

The Bartender shall be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to customers while providing exceptional customer service. S/he will ensure a welcoming and efficient bar experience, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and adhering to all safety and regulatory standards to support bar operations and profitability.

Responsibilities and Duties

Customer Service

  • Provide prompt, friendly, and professional service to guests, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Engage with customers to take drink orders, offer recommendations, and address inquiries or concerns.
  • Handle complaints professionally and escalate unresolved issues to the Bar/Lounge Manager when necessary.
  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all patrons.

Beverage Preparation and Service


  • Prepare and serve a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, beers, and wines, adhering to standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
  • Ensure consistency in drink quality and portion control to meet company standards.
  • Monitor and maintain bar cleanliness, including wiping down surfaces, cleaning glassware, and organizing bar tools.
  • Restock bar supplies, including garnishes, ice, and beverages, throughout shifts to ensure uninterrupted service.

Bar Operations

  • Assist in setting up and closing the bar according to established procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report low stock to the Bar Manager.
  • Support private functions and special events by preparing drinks and assisting with setup as directed.
  • Adhere to all operational standards, including compliance with Kenyan alcohol regulations and the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Follow health and safety protocols, including proper handling of food and beverages.
  • Comply with all licensing requirements and regulations related to alcohol service.
  • Participate in alcohol awareness training as required.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment to meet governmental health standards.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with bar staff, waitstaff, and management to ensure smooth operations during peak hours.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate service and resolve any issues.
  • Assist with training new staff members as directed by the Bar Manager.

Additional Duties

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Bar Manager to support efficient bar operations.

Education and Certification

  • At least Diploma in bartending or mixology from a recognized hospitality institution.
  • Food & Beverage Service Certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of bartending or hospitality experience.
  • Food Handler Certificate / Food Safety & Hygiene Training.

Skills and Knowledge          

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage and build rapport with guests.
  • Knowledge of beverage preparation, including cocktails, beers, and wines.
  • Ability to perform efficiently under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math skills for handling payments and inventory.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and alcohol service regulations.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle stressful situations professionally.
