The jobholder is responsible for carrying out scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance to ensure continued airworthiness of AMREF Flying Doctors aircraft fleet and conformance with Kenya Civil Aviation Authority regulations, AMREF Flying Doctors procedures and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform
scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance – Line and base maintenance
as per approved maintenance program.
- Perform
unscheduled aircraft maintenance out of base as circumstances dictates.
- Troubleshoot;
carry out repairs, defect rectification, alterations and modifications,
replacement, inspections and functional tests to ensure continued
airworthiness of airframe, engines, APUs, aircraft components, equipment
and systems.
- Perform
assembly, disassembly and repairs required in completion of airframe
repair or modifications including but not limited to removal, replacement
and repair of engines and airframe.
- Ensure
all defects are rectified and aircraft/aircraft components certified on
time prior to release to service.
- Reporting
and recording any abnormal damage, wear etc., on aircraft or its component
when identified.
- Supervise
all tasks assigned to and carried out by aircraft technicians/ground
operation personnel including but not limited to aircraft internal and
external cleaning. Defueling/defueling etc.
- Tow
and move aircraft during/while performing maintenance.
- Ensure
equipment, facilities and premises are maintenance to industry acceptable
standard.
- Ensure
flight crew are suitably debriefed to ensure defects are accurately
defined and recorded.
- Analysing
and interpreting technical information relating to aircraft.
- Monitor
to completion of all planned work assigned to AMO.
- Work
closely with other departments to complete project work.
- Perform
other tasks duties associated with AFD AOC aircraft maintenance.
- Manage
AFD Technical tool store and associated tool and equipment technical
publications.
- Ensure
all tools and equipment
are calibrated as applicable.
- Maintenance
of all aircraft tools and equipment at AFD to industry acceptable
standard.
- Collect
and review reliability data to ensure data accuracy and/or proper coding
to respective classifications/ATA chapters.
- Deferred
Maintenance Items control: preparing daily open defects and MEL report to
enhance aircraft dispatch briefing.
- Transfer
all Technical Log defects to the digital defects log, including details of
rectification action taken and any deferred defects.
- Carry
out engine condition trend monitoring, downloading, uploading and
recording of engine and APU data.
- Identify
replacement parts required during aircraft maintenance and advise HOBM for
sourcing.
- Inspecting
received aircraft parts for airworthiness before they are accepted in AFD
technical store.
- Preparing
for shipping of replaced parts/cores exchange units.
- Assist
in AMO audits,
- Assist
in audit of work packages from subcontracted AMO’s for completeness.
- Assist
in implementing a quality audit program.
- Prepare
monthly fleet and loaner components utilization reports.
- Monitor
components under warranty and notify HOBM on valid warranty claims.
- Support
the HOBM with regards to the subcontracted AMOs.
- Provide
support to the engineering unit.
- Attend
to any other work related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree
in Aeronautical engineering is preferable or a diploma in Aeronautical
Engineering from a KCAA Approved Training Organization (ATO) or
equivalent. Certification in Business Management is an added advantage.
- A
minimum of 10 years’ working experience in aircraft maintenance of which 8
years are in maintenance and releasing to service of business jets, large
gas turbine equipped aircraft or Pilatus PC-12.
- KCAA
Airframe and Gas turbine engines aircraft maintenance engineer’s
license.
- Aircraft
reliability and airworthiness experience in an AOC/AMO environment.
- Citation
560 XLS, Citation 680 series and Pilatus PC-12 Aircraft type
training.
- Pratt
and Whitney PW 500/600 and Large PT6 series engines type training.
- Must
be proficient in IT.
Knowledge, Skills and
Competencies
- Extensive
knowledge of KCARs.
- Extensive
knowledge of Citation business jets systems and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge
of aircraft, engine systems and its operation.
- Interpretation
of airworthiness directives, manufacturer’s publications and maintenance
data is vital.
