Role Summary
The role of the Class Teacher is to facilitate the
holistic development and growth of learners and provide continuous
implementation of the Early Years Program. In addition, the class Teacher will
create a play-based learning environment that is conducive and meets each
individual learner needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to effective
learning and appropriate to the interest of the students.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials in
collaboration with team partners.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best
utilize the available time for instruction.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to
adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social progress; keep
appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Diagnose student needs on a regular basis and cooperate with
other members of staff in helping students resolve health, attitude and
learning problems.
- Maintain accurate, up to date attendance records for students
in his/her class.
- Communicate with parents in order to exchange information
regarding the school’s programme(s) and a student’s academic and social
development.
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for
educational related purposes outside the instructional day, when requested
to do so under reasonable terms.
- Supervise students’ breaks.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or
rules governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable rules of
classroom behaviour and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a
fair and just manner.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher
trainees, aides and/or volunteers.
- Assist in the development of curriculum, the selection and
ordering of books and instructional materials and maintain required
inventory records.
- Cooperate with other members of staff in planning
instructional goals and methods.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
- Provide for his/her own professional growth through an
on-going program of reading, attending workshops, seminars and
conferences, and/or taking advanced course work at institutions of higher
learning.
The Requirements
Qualifications and experience:
- KNEC ECD Diploma/Degree.
- Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate if
in Kenya.
- Certificate of good conduct.
- Knowledge of Early Years Program Teaching.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural
collaborative team and environment.
- Be conversant with the use of technology as a teaching and
learning tool.
