Job Purpose/Summary
To teach in selected courses within SONAM’s
accredited nursing, midwifery and continuing professional development
programmes; participate in research activities; and ensure professional
/academic productivity within the School of Nursing & Midwifery (SONAM).
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Utilize innovative and student engaging strategies in teaching
and learning of courses as allocated.
- Ensure course outlines, lesson plans and any other teaching
and learning materials are uploaded on the learning management platform
e.g. Moodle on a timely manner.
- Take effective teaching leadership of courses as allocated.
- Planning and implementing teaching/learning sessions in class
and in clinical areas.
- Preparing lesson plans and maintaining records to monitor
student progress, achievement and attendance. Assist with supervision of
undergraduate students.
- Participate in the development, administration and marking of
exams and other assessments.
- Engage in research in identified areas of interest in clinical
practice and teaching / learning.
- Participate in professional scientific conferences.
- Publish research findings in peer reviewed journals.
- Identify an area of clinical practice relevant to expertise
and subjects taught.
- Develop periodic clinical practice objectives to meet learning
needs.
- Using identified objectives, engage in clinical practice.
- Maintain a current basic life support (BLS) certification.
- Pursue higher academic qualifications as required by the
Commission of
- University Education (CUE).
- Develop and maintain personal faculty portfolio.
- Identify and attend continuous development programmes.
- Participate in faculty and departmental seminars, workshops
aimed at building capacity, sharing research outcomes and building
interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department.
- Provide support as faculty advisors to students enrolled in
various programmes at SONAM in academic, professional and social welfare
issues.
- Maintain records of student mentorship activities.
- Engage in orientation activities for new students, faculty and
staff.
- Attend and contribute in faculty meetings to discuss student
and faculty issues, assignment of teaching responsibilities, and smooth
running of the programmes.
- Participate in various committees at SONAM as called
upon.
- Engage in the administration of various programmes and
activities as may be called upon.
- Engage in the student recruitment and convocation
processes.
- Work collaboratively with partners and other stakeholders
working with SONAM.
Relevant Experience and Qualifications
- PhD required.
- Be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Have a valid practice license.
- At least four years of teaching experience in higher
education.
- Have at least four publication points as stipulated by the
Commission of University Education (CUE).
- Be clinically active.
- Possess good interpersonal/communication, organization and
counselling skills.
