Purpose of role: The Creative Assistant is an ‘entry-level’ position for young people with exceptional qualities to gain experience, cut their teeth and prove themselves, while providing logistical and other support in all areas of production.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:Purpose of role: The Creative Assistant is an ‘entry-level’ position for young people with exceptional qualities to gain experience, cut their teeth and prove themselves, while providing logistical and other support in all areas of production.
- Provide technical and creative support to all
parts of the company, especially the Broadcast, Creative and Communication
teams.
- Input and organise video data from the
broadcast and creative teams, monitor and maintain camera kit, editing and
other equipment, organise duplication of films, photos and other resources
[sometimes at short notice], help to run an online stills library, and
provide other support to the teams when required.
- Use their experience of, and increase their
knowledge of, digital video production – including Final Cut Pro [but also
possibly Motion, After Effects, and others] – and also publishing
software, including Photoshop [but also possibly InDesign, and others].
- Maintain good relations with all team members,
under-taking any reasonable task that they ask. This could include; making
tea, collecting, lifting or moving kit, cleaning or tidying kit, running
necessary errands from the office.
- Be prepared to pick up some other functions,
including [according to aptitude and training] using a camera, operating
sound, being a runner on location, etc.
- Engage with Fixers with sensitivity to their
needs and the often difficult stories they have to tell.
- Expect to work flexible hours including
evenings and weekends, where necessary.
- Work in any capacity on other projects, when
asked.
Any other duties as reasonably
required.

Knowledge
- Growing knowledge of creative disciplines
including video production, photography, graphic design, print and
websites.
- Familiarity with software including Final Cut
Pro, Motion, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Internet literate.
Experience
- Some experience within a video and/or other
creative environment, including university courses.
- Familiar with video production, including
shooting, editing and location logistics.
- Experienced in working with other people, and
taking direction.
Skills
- Emerging talent that can be demonstrated in
one or more creative disciplines.
- Capable of handling responsibility, organising
priorities, tackling problems and predicting future issues.
Approach
- Relaxed but thorough.
- Hard-working but open and friendly.
- Capable of putting all contributors at ease.
Qualifications
Degree level education [not necessarily a media degree] and/or vocational training or experience amounting to equivalent.
