Catholic Relief Services – Kenya Program Jobs: IT Officer and Program Officer

Catholic Relief services –USCCB is the official agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for relief and development overseas. CRS supports programs in over 100 countries and works through local partners. We are seeking suitable persons to fill the positions listed below.

All candidates require technical competencies in the respective areas, excellent computer skills, oral and written communication skills, willingness to travel to the field frequently and a commitment to work with and support faith based partners of


CRS many of whom are Catholic institutions.

1) Position: IT Officer
Ref.2010/14 Location: Nairobi
Purpose: To provide day-to-day IT support services function, Network operability, Software design and development. Work mainly involves problem solving and mediating highly conflicting, unexpected, and unusual problems involving multiple groups.

Installation and maintenance of software packages, maintenance of hardware and peripheral components, Information Systems Help Desk, maintain software library, and maintain and control Anti-Virus processes.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Physical installation/ de-installation of Desktop computers and laptops, peripherals, servers, network equipment, LCD projectors, portable internet modems, scanners, printers/copiers
  • Monitor and manage the computer systems
  • Attend and resolve support cases reported by phone, walk in users, E-mail and help desk system within agreed time limits
  • Document network, software and server configurations and any actions changing that configuration
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance on IT Hardware such as network equipment, computers & servers and phone system
  • Ensure availability of network services i.e. internet connection, file shares and print services
  • Provide Network support and monitoring using the CRS standard applications
  • Test backups and data recovery procedures
  • Maintain and control antivirus/antimalware/antispyware processes
  • Enforce and adhere to defined network usage/access policies
  • Manage user E-mail and network access accounts
  • Document resolutions to problems and maintain repair logs
  • Conduct electrical safety checks on computer equipment.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in computer science
  • Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003/2007 and MS Windows 2003/2008
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Internet security and acceleration server 2006
  • Have at least Two year’s experience in the IT industry in a similar position.
  • Ability to prioritize/ perform multiple tasks and work in a team
  • Ability to conduct research to obtain undocumented solutions for difficult hardware and software problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a range of current IT techniques and trends, systems, networking operations, service level agreements and technical support standards
  • Working knowledge of Sun System will be an added advantage
2) Position: Program Officer 
Education for Marginalized Children in Kenya (EMACK- II) Program 
Ref.2010/15
Location: Mombasa with wide travel within the Coast Province
Purpose: The Program Officer is responsible for providing technical support to the education programs, support partners in ensuring appropriate implementation of education programs as per the approved activities, take lead in writing periodic reports, hold technical meetings, work with the consortium members and represent CRS externally and internally to appropriate forums as well as advance CRS desire to integrate Education project with other CRS supported Programs.
Specific Duties& Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and advise in ensuring that the implementation of EMACK-II program is in accordance to the program plans and in accordance to CRS and donor regulations
  • Support the Deputy Head of Programs and other stake holders in managing the overall program particularly in the areas of technical, partner support, and representation.
  • In collaboration with other consortium members and CRS M&E Unit, develop necessary tools and mechanism to monitor and evaluate the progress of the set goal and objectives. Prepare periodic progress report, submit and disseminate the same to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure and promote program integration as per the CRS/Kenya strategic Program plan.
  • Promote linkages with partners by conducting periodic site visits, to monitor and evaluate progress
  • Work with CRS partners and provide technical input to strengthen their capacity to manage current programs, develop new initiatives and strengthen essential institutional systems that underpin their programs and work with the other networks to foster stronger leadership in the education sector, particularly at institutional level.
  • Network and build/strengthen linkages with other organizations and GoK
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Education with emphasis on quality primary education - Post Graduate Degree in Education will be an added advantage.
  • At least three years experience in managing extensive education programs including working knowledge (practical skills) in education program implementation.
  • Familiarity with implementation of US Government-funded projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through formal and informal training
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Experience in networking, advocacy and lobbying.
  • Understanding of the culture, political and social and economic situation of the country.
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
