Project
Summary:
- CEFA will coordinate the implementation of the
project “GROW – Gender-Responsive Opportunities for Water Access,
Livelihood Recovery and Climate Resilience for Vulnerable Communities in
West Pokot County,” funded by AICS and implemented in partnership with
Perur Rays of Hope in West Pokot County, Kenya. The project will be
carried out in Pokot North Sub-County, specifically in Kodich, Kapchok and
Kiwawa wards.
- The overall objective of the project is to
improve the living conditions and the capacity to respond to shocks of
populations most exposed to multidimensional poverty and the impacts of
climate change. Specifically, the project aims to address humanitarian
needs and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities in ASAL
areas through three main components: (a) improving safe and continuous
access to drinking water and inclusive WASH services, with a focus on
women, girls and persons with disabilities; (b) strengthening food
security, nutrition, agriculture and pastoral livelihoods through
sustainable practices, dietary diversification, income-generating
activities, fodder production and support to the honey value chain; and
(c) enhancing disaster risk reduction through risk analysis tools, early
warning systems, agroforestry, reforestation and sustainable land
management.

Kenya, with the exact location to be determined based on operational
needs.
General
Objectives and Responsibilities:
- The CEFA Agriculture Field Officer
(Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture and Food Security), under the direct
supervision of the Field Coordinator and in close coordination with the
Project Manager, is responsible for the field implementation of the
project’s agriculture and food security activities.
Main
Duties
- Support the implementation of the project’s
agricultural activities, including training on basic and climate-smart
agronomic techniques, distribution of agricultural inputs, and
collaboration with the private sector.
- Contribute to the selection, regular follow-up
and collection of field data to monitor the adoption of the techniques
learned and the progress of production.
- Facilitate and co-lead training sessions,
including ToT, cascade trainings and demonstration sessions, on basic
agronomic techniques and climate-smart agriculture, ensuring the quality
of the contents and the effectiveness of the training.
- Coordinate the logistics and distribution of
seeds, fertilizers and other inputs, ensuring traceability, proper
documentation and transparency.
- Support the creation and monitoring of value
chain agreements between producers and private sector buyers, supervising
the negotiation phases and the implementation of contracts.
- Support the creation and follow-up of
partnerships between farmer groups and agricultural service providers,
such as ploughing and credit services, monitoring the proper delivery of
services.
- Collect, analyse and archive information on crop
status, the effectiveness of training activities and the impact of the
activities, regularly updating monitoring databases and reports.
- Organize workshops, demonstration days and
meetings between producers and the private sector, ensuring proper
logistics and documentation, including attendance lists, minutes and
photographic reports.
- Provide continuous assistance to farmer groups,
facilitating the exchange of experiences and the creation of networks with
businesses and markets.
- Maintain constant dialogue with the Department
of Water, Natural Resources and Climate Change of West Pokot County and
with local authorities, ensuring alignment with current policies and
regulations.
- Work closely with the Field Coordinator and the
Project Manager, ensuring that activities are implemented according to
high quality standards, within the planned timeframe and with adequate
reporting.
- Accurately complete attendance sheets,
distribution lists, minutes and other supporting documentation, ensuring
the orderly filing of project evidence.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the
Project Manager in line with the profile and the needs of the project.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or
equivalent secondary school diploma with at least 3 years of experience in
agricultural or food security projects.
- Minimum 2 years of practical experience in the
implementation of agricultural and/or food security projects, preferably
in rural or semi-arid contexts.
- Experience in participatory agricultural
training, community mobilisation and field monitoring.
- Possession of a valid Kenyan
motorcycle riding licence, minimum Class A2, and proven ability and
willingness to ride a motorcycle in rural and remote areas. The position
requires regular travel by motorcycle to project locations.
- Proven ability to work in a team and coordinate
with institutional and private partners.
- Good command of the Microsoft Office package,
particularly Excel, for data management and analysis.
- Excellent knowledge of the Kenyan context, with
particular attention to West Pokot County and local agro-pastoral
dynamics.
- Good knowledge of English and Swahili, both
written and spoken; knowledge of local languages, such as Pokot, is
considered an advantage.
- Previous work experience with CEFA and/or AICS
is considered an asset.
