Key Responsibilities
Partnership Development & Coordination
- Lead the establishment and facilitation of the
SWEEP Partnership Platform in Kenya, ensuring effective engagement of all
stakeholders (government, private sector,
- NGOs, refugee-led/community groups, financiers).
- Serve as the focal point between Last Mile
Climate, KEPRO, and wider SWEEP global and local partners (Waste.nl, DRC,
UNHCR, WFP, private sector companies, etc.).
- Build strong working relationships with Kenyan
government ministries and agencies to ensure alignment with national
policies and priorities on sustainable waste management, and as relevant
seek to influence refugee-inclusive waste policies.
- Support exploration of opportunities to extend
SWEEP into Ethiopia, in close coordination with Last Mile Climate and
partners, as projects materialize (e.g. a prospective project with SWEEP
partner Kubik to collect plastics and turn it into construction materials
in Harar and Jijiga).
Project Development & Support
- Facilitate co-creation of multi-stakeholder
projects under the SWEEP Platform, including private–public–community
collaborations.
- Provide technical and coordination support to
design, fund, and implement projects in line with SWEEP’s vision of
circular economy and green job creation.
- Support integration of innovative financing
mechanisms, such as plastic credits.
Strategic Alignment & Advocacy
- Ensure all SWEEP activities are consistent with
and advance Kenyan government
- waste management policies, strategies, and EPR
frameworks.
- Represent SWEEP and Last Mile Climate in key
national and regional fora on waste
- and circular economy.
- Promote inclusive approaches, ensuring refugee
and host community voices are meaningfully engaged in all stages of
project design and delivery.
Management & Reporting
- Report directly to Last Mile Climate’s Regional
Director for East Africa as well as KEPRO’s CEO
- Administratively and socially integrate with
KEPRO’s team (can spend up to max.
- 10% of time on KEPRO team activities not
specifically related to SWEEP).
- Provide timely reporting and knowledge sharing
to both Last Mile Climate and KEPRO and as relevant to other SWEEP
partners.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in
Environmental Management, Circular Economy, Development Studies, Business
Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional
experience, including partnership management, project development, or
policy engagement in waste management, circular economy, or related
fields.
- Proven experience working with multi-stakeholder
platforms involving government, private sector, and NGOs.
- Strong understanding of Kenya’s waste management
landscape, including EPR frameworks, circular economy initiatives, and
policy environment.
- Experience working in humanitarian or last-mile
contexts is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of innovative financing mechanisms
(plastic credits, carbon credits, etc.) desirable.
