General Accountant Job in Kenya (80K)

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare, maintain, and update accurate financial records in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, supplier statements, and customer accounts.
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of all accounting records.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely invoicing, collections, and payments.
  • Review and process supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper approvals.
  • Monitor customer balances, follow up on outstanding receivables, and manage credit control.
  • Prepare aging reports for both payables and receivables.

Taxation & Statutory Compliance


  • Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and file monthly and annual tax returns including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and Corporation Tax via iTax.
  • Ensure accurate tax computations and timely payments to avoid penalties.
  • Maintain proper tax records and support audits and statutory inspections.

ETIMS & Invoicing

  • Ensure compliance with KRA ETIMS requirements.
  • Manage invoicing processes, ensuring accurate issuance of tax invoices.
  • Reconcile ETIMS sales data with accounting records and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain proper records for audits and compliance purposes.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Utilize accounting software efficiently to record and analyze financial data.
  • Maintain accurate data in accounting systems and ensure system controls are adhered to.
  • Develop and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide support during internal and external audits.

Budgeting & Controls

  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Track expenses against budgets and highlight variances.
  • Support management with financial analysis and cost control initiatives.

Key Requirement Skills And Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA Part IV qualification (mandatory).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Accountant, preferably in the FMCG retail industry.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Proven experience in preparing financial statements and maintaining accurate accounting records.
  • Demonstrated experience in tax compliance, iTax, invoicing, and ETIMS.
