Role Profile
Supervisory role supporting the Bonds
& Customs Manager to drive the company’s strategy through high-quality
global trade and excise governance. Responsible for leading and coordinating
Customs operations, including registration of entries, ensuring accurate
declarations, and managing trade affairs across East Africa in a dynamic
industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective management, leadership,
mentorship and strategic direction to staff and in all customs operations.
- Processing of IDF applications through
KENTRADE/ICMS systems.
- Supervise and organize the team in clearing,
documentation and logistics for smooth running of operations in the
system.
- Supervise Declaration teams as well as customs
declarations on KRA systems for ensure accuracy and timeliness of the
entries to avoid deferred costs or penalties.
- Compute taxes payable for raising proforma
invoices for clients.
- Liaise with Shipping lines to get ETAs and
approved manifest number to enable entry registration.
- Provide customers, internal and external, with
accurate updates on their reports.
- Assisting in managing both the Imports &
Exports processes.
- Effectively liaise with KIFWA, KEBS, KSB, CBK,
SGS and other regulatory bodies to ensure the smooth flow of our business.
- Monitor KRA alert on bonding as well as all
pre-alerts for all Seafreight and Airfreight, Transit and Transshipments
including Local and Transit imports and Exports by sea and road and
forward the documents to the concerned parties.
- Share weekly reports.
- Ensure proper maintenance of all customs
documents and all other related documents in the respective
locations/sections as per the laid down procedures.
- Prompt attention to clients’ complaints within
the stipulated timeframe, guiding clients on the required clearing
documents and providing regular updates to customers.
- Advise both internal & external clients on
applicable HS codes, tax rates, tax computations and customs requirements
whenever the advice is sought.
Education & Experience
- A minimum of a Diploma in clearing &
Forwarding, shipping, tax administration or any logistics related field
from a recognized Institution. A Bachelor’s degree in Business field is an
added advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience with a
minimum of 5 years in a Supervisory role.
- Must demonstrate effectiveness in holding
conversations with customers and giving progress reports.
- Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge and
understanding of customs legislation, tariffs, import/export
documentation, customs clearance, bond management and customs declaration.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of
clearing and forwarding regulations.
- Must be well conversant with port operations
procedures.
- Must have good knowledge of government
procedures relating to imports & exports.
- Knowledge of customs laws pertaining to Kenya,
East Africa.
- Must demonstrate the ability to maintain good
working relationships with all the stakeholders.
- Must demonstrate ability to work independently.
- Must demonstrate good supervision skills and be
a good team player.
- Must be flexible in work habits and schedules.
- Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical
practice.
- Must demonstrate commitment to operational
effectiveness.
- Must have knowledge in use of MS office
packages.
