Reporting To: Finance Manager
Job Purpose: The
Senior Accountant will
oversee the financial operations of a freight forwarding company, ensuring
accurate accounting practices, regulatory compliance, budget management, and
optimal financial performance. This role requires close collaboration with
internal teams, clients, and vendors to streamline financial workflows and
contribute to overall efficiency and profitability.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Maintain and review the general ledger, ensuring
accurate recording of all transactions.
- Perform financial analysis (ratios, trends,
variances) to support decision-making.
- Prepare and present financial statements,
including P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Cash Flow Management
- Prepare short- and long-term cash flow
forecasts.
- Monitor daily cash balances and ensure optimal
liquidity across accounts.
Bank Reconciliation & Internal Controls
- Perform regular bank reconciliations.
- Ensure robust internal controls are in place to
safeguard financial assets.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and
financial forecasts.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted
figures.
- Support departmental budget planning and cost
monitoring.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure timely filing and payment of statutory
obligations including PAYE, VAT, WHT, VAT WHT, NSSF, NHIF, HELB, and
installment taxes.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and relevant
industry-specific financial regulations.
Payroll Management
- Oversee payroll preparation and ensure
compliance with tax and statutory deductions.
- Liaise with HR to maintain accurate employee
compensation records.
Fixed Assets Management
- Ensure timely capitalization of assets and
maintain the fixed asset register.
- Supervise physical tagging and depreciation
calculations in line with company policy.
Audit & Risk Management
- Coordinate audit processes and prepare the
required documentation.
- Monitor internal controls and propose
improvements to mitigate financial risks.
- Any other duty may be assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or
related field (mandatory).
- CPA (K) or ACCA certification (mandatory).
- Prior experience in an audit firm is an added
advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar
role; freight forwarding/logistics industry experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (experience with
CargoWise is a distinct advantage).
- Advanced Excel and strong proficiency in MS
Office applications.
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles,
financial regulations, and tax compliance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and
problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal
abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a
fast-paced environment.
