Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated Program Intern to support the implementation of entrepreneurship support programs at Westerwelle Startup Haus Mombasa. The intern will work closely with the Program Manager to ensure all aspects of our programs from workshops to demo days run smoothly. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to grow into a Program Coordinator role.

Key Responsibilities


Program Implementation & Coordination

  • Support the Program Manager in organizing and coordinating workshops, trainings, and program events.
  • Assist with logistics for program sessions, including venue setup, material preparation, participant communication, and attendance tracking.
  • Follow up with startups and ensure timely collection of surveys, reports, and participant feedback.
  • Coordinate with vendors (caterers, trainers, facilitators, etc.) to ensure seamless execution of activities.
  • Support with some clerical tasks and assist with reception duties as needed.
  • Maintain program documentation and ensure files are updated and organized.

Monitoring & Administration

  • Track and document participant attendance accurately for all sessions.
  • Ensure proper filing of attendance records and participant documentation.
  • Support with basic data collection and entry for program monitoring and reporting.
  • Maintain detailed tracking of program schedules and timelines.
  • Draft summaries or notes after program sessions.
  • Ensure all program-related promotional materials are stored correctly and are accessible for reporting and communication purposes.

Ecosystem Engagement & Startups

  • Serve as a point of contact for program participants during sessions and events.
  • Build rapport with entrepreneurs and ensure their experience in the program is supportive and enriching.
  • Conduct research on relevant startup resources and opportunities.

Additional Administrative Support

  • When needed, assist in reception duties, such as welcoming visitors and giving space tours.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the community and marketing teams, including basic event setup or communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Project Management, Information Technology, or any other related field in the business space.
  • At least 6 months to 1 year of experience working or interning in program support, ideally within the startup or NGO ecosystem.
  • Experience with training programs, acceleration/incubation programs, or youth development initiatives is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with administrative processes, logistics, or startup engagement is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); or other workflow tools is a bonus.
