The
Northern Rangelands Trust is a non-profit umbrella organization supporting 33
community conservancies across northern Kenya. Its mission is to develop
resilient community conservancies, which transform lives, secure peace and
conserve natural resources.
Reporting to the Senior Infrastructure Officer, the Infrastructure
Engineer/Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing and
maintaining different infrastructure and building projects within the NRT
landscape. This role involves working with other infrastructure team to ensure
smooth implementation of projects. The infrastructure engineer/officer will
collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all the infrastructure
projects meet the organizational standards and requirements and complies with
the statutory requirements.
Key roles/Responsibilities:
Preparing
Architectural drawings for various projects and liaising with relevant
authorities.
Preparing
bill of quantities (BOQ) and bill of materials (BOM) for various projects.
Supporting
project compliance (NEMA, WARMA, EIAs and plan approvals, public health and
physical planning.
Ensuing
all Project documents are properly filled in respective folders.
Assisting
in preparations of Bills of quantities (BOQ) and bills of materials (BOM) and
designs.
Assisting
in Preparing Architectural drawings for various projects and liaison with
respective counties officials for physical planning approval (NEMA, WARMA, EIAs
and plan approvals) .
Undertaking
Periodic visits to project sites to ensure high quality works.
Preparing
work certification for payment consideration and completion certificate.
Coordinating
visits to project sites with EIA consultant including follow-up on all
licensing issues
With
respective county NEMA officials.
Initiating
contractors’ sites visit and assist formation of PIC (project implementation
committee).
Organizing
transport for materials, labour and ration to site for all approved as per NRT
procurement guidelines.
Preparing
and following-up of allowances for the team as per approved itinerary.
Initiating
contractors’ sites visit and lead formation of PIC (project implementation
committee).
Practical
setting out of buildings with contractors.
Supporting
in recruitment of Foremen, artisans and laborers as per project needs in
consultation with Infrastructure team and Operations Manager.
Validating
the quality of materials supplied and ensuring quality workmanship.
Regular
liaising with conservancy management for respective projects, arranging for
regular site visits/meetings, supervision of on-going works to ensure high
quality, liaison with contractors.
Performing
any other duties as may be assigned to you from time by your immediate
supervisor.
Knowledge,
experience, and qualifications required:
Academic
& Professional Qualifications:
Bachelor’s
degree (BSc) Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Engineering or
any other related degree from a recognized university.
Professional
relevant courses from recognized universities/institutions will be added
advantage.
Registration
with Engineer’s Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya
(IEK)..
Proficiency
in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or other engineering design software.
Experience
required:
Minimum
of 5 years’ relevant experience in building engineering, civil engineering or
construction management.
Experience
in design software (eg AutoCAD) and project management tools.
Working
knowledge of relevant Kenyan legislation including the Environmental Management
Coordination Act, National Construction Authority Regulations etc. is highly
desired.
Experience
in working with people from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating respect for, and
understanding of cultural differences.
Technical
& Behavioral competences:
Proficiency
in building design, construction management and structural analysis.
Knowledge
of building codes, safety regulations and environmental standards.
Strong
problem solving skills.
Excellent
interpersonal, networking, negotiation and Communication skills.
Ability
to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
