Job Title: Transport & Fleet Manager M/F
Responsible for overseeing daily transport
operations, planning routes and vehicle allocation, managing company and
subcontracted fleets, monitoring fleet utilisation, supervising drivers and
transport staff, tracking performance, ensuring QHSSE and regulatory
compliance, managing client relationships, and controlling transport budgets
and operating costs. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain
Management, Transport Management, or a related field, with 7–10 years’ fleet
and transport experience. The position is based in Nairobi and requires on-site
work.
Key
Responsibilities
Transport Operations Management
Coordinate
and oversee daily transport activities including route planning, driver and
vehicle allocation, and real-time operational monitoring.
Ensure
timely and cost-effective delivery of goods in line with customer SLAs and
operational plans.
Ensure
seamless integration and optimal utilization of company-owned and subcontracted
fleets.
Fleet & Equipment Management.
Oversee
preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure fleet availability,
roadworthiness, and regulatory compliance.
Monitor
fleet utilization, fuel consumption, mileage, downtime, and operating costs.
Implement
fuel management and cost-control initiatives to improve efficiency.
Manage
transport management systems (TMS) and digital tracking tools, ensuring
accuracy and timely updates of fleet records.
People Management & Leadership
Lead,
coach, and motivate drivers, fleet officers, dispatchers, and transport
operations staff.
Manage
recruitment support, onboarding, induction, and training of drivers and fleet
personnel.
Conduct
performance evaluations, manage attendance and leave schedules, and enforce
discipline in line with company HR policies.
Address
employee grievances promptly and fairly while maintaining operational
discipline and accountability
Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous
Improvement
Develop,
track, and analyze transport KPIs covering cost, service levels, safety
performance, fleet utilization, and productivity.
Ensure
adherence to approved SOPs for dispatch, routing, journey management, and
client communication.
Conduct
internal audits and reviews to ensure operational compliance and efficiency.
Drive
continuous improvement initiatives, including lean transport practices and
process optimization.
QHSSE Compliance & Safety.
Enforce
strict compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental
(QHSSE) policies and statutory requirements.
Ensure
subcontractors comply fully with company HSE standards and contractual
obligations.
Support
sustainability initiatives including fuel reduction, emissions control,
eco-driving practices, and environmental protection measures.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Act as
the primary point of contact for clients on all transport-related matters
Collaborate
with internal stakeholders including Operations, Finance, Commercial, and QHSSE
teams to align transport activities with business objectives.
Support
service improvement initiatives and maintain strong client relationships.
P&L and Financial Responsibility
Manage
the transport P&L, including monitoring revenues, operating costs, and
profitability.
Prepare
and manage transport budgets, forecasts, and cost-control plans.
Implement
cost-optimization strategies related to fleet size, fuel usage, maintenance,
subcontracting, and route efficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s
degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, or a
related field.
Minimum
of 7–10 years of experience in fleet and transport operations, including
managerial responsibility.
Proven
track record in managing a large fleet and delivering transport solutions in
East Africa.
Strong
knowledge of transport, regulatory environment and operational best practices
in Kenya.
Experience
in using transport management systems (TMS), GPS tracking tools, and fleet
analytics platforms.
Excellent
leadership, planning, and interpersonal skills.
Ability
to work under pressure and adapt in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Strong
knowledge of customs, regulatory, and QHSSE standards.
Proficiency
in Microsoft Office tools.
Excellent
leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
Proven
ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Valid
driver’s license (Category CE) and knowledge of vehicle technical
specifications will be an added advantage.
