Role Outline

  • The Central Transport Operations Lead is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, control and continuous improvement of transport operations across multiple sites, regions or customers. The role ensures the safe, cost-effective, compliant and efficient movement of goods while achieving service-level targets.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily transport operations across the assigned network.
  • Monitor fleet utilization and optimize vehicle routing, load planning and vehicle allocation.

  • Optimize vehicle allocation to maximize capacity utilization.
  • Ensure timely dispatch and delivery of customer orders.
  • Use transportation management systems and tracking tools to monitor shipments and vehicles in real time.
  • Ensure on-time collection and delivery of shipments.
  • Resolve operational issues and service disruptions promptly.
  • Monitor fleet performance, availability and utilization.
  • Drive initiatives to improve vehicle productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and driver productivity.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and employee engagement.
  • Ensure service levels meet or exceed contractual customer expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to transport regulations, axle-load requirements and road safety standards.
  • Ensure fleet compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service delivery.
  • Manage transport-related supplier and contractor performance.
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation, road safety regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure driver compliance with licensing, permits and training requirements.
  • Ensure loads leave within the agreed dispatch window and control delivery documents, keys, GPS devices, fuel cards and mobile phones.
  • Coordinate resolution of delivery issues with customer service and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support team performance, workload balancing and achievement of individual development objectives.

About you

  • Degree/Diploma in Logistics and supply chain.
  • Experience in fleet utilization, routing, load planning, vehicle allocation, dispatch, delivery control, transport exceptions, TMS/tracking tools, fuel monitoring, driver productivity and supplier performance.
  • 10 years in logistics; transport or supply chain industry exposure required.
  • Working knowledge of structured problem solving, performance reporting and continuous improvement methods.
  • Supply chain, transport or logistics industry experience, with practical exposure to customer service and distribution operations.
  • National business knowledge and the ability to work effectively across diverse cultural and stakeholder environments.
