governance, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. As part of its
growth strategy, the company is seeking an experienced Business Development
& Sales Manager to drive portfolio growth, strengthen strategic
partnerships, and lead a high-performing sales team.
The
Sales Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction
to the Company’s sales function to drive sustainable business growth, increase
market share, expand the loan portfolio, and enhance customer acquisition and
retention. The role is accountable for developing and executing sales
strategies, managing sales teams, building strategic partnerships, and ensuring
the achievement of revenue and portfolio growth targets while maintaining high
portfolio quality.
The
position works closely with the Credit, Marketing, Operations, Risk, and
Finance teams to deliver profitable business growth aligned with the Company’s
strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales
Strategy and Business Growth
- Develop and implement the Company’s annual sales strategy in line
with the strategic business plan.
- Drive growth of the loan portfolio through acquisition of quality
borrowers across all market segments.
- Develop sales plans, targets, and initiatives that support
sustainable revenue growth.
- Identify new market opportunities, customer segments, and strategic
partnerships.
- Develop innovative customer acquisition and retention strategies.
- Lead market penetration initiatives in new geographical areas.
- Continuously evaluate market trends, competitor activities, and
customer needs and recommend strategic interventions.
Sales Performance
Management
- Develop annual, quarterly, and monthly sales targets for all sales
teams.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance against
targets.
- Establish performance management systems and Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs).
- Conduct regular sales review meetings and performance coaching
sessions.
- Implement corrective actions where sales performance falls below
expectations.
- Drive a high-performance sales culture focused on accountability and
results.
Team
Leadership and Development
- Recruit, train, mentor, and develop high-performing sales teams.
- Provide leadership and motivation to Sales Officers and field sales
teams.
- Conduct regular performance appraisals and coaching.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate continuous capacity
building.
- Foster teamwork, integrity, professionalism, and a customer-centric
culture.
Customer
Acquisition and Relationship Management
- Develop strategies for attracting new clients while retaining
existing customers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, employers,
SACCOs, corporates, government institutions, and strategic partners.
- Strengthen customer engagement through regular visits and
relationship management.
- Ensure excellent customer experience throughout the customer
journey.
- Resolve escalated customer complaints promptly.
Portfolio
Growth and Quality
- Drive quality loan book growth while maintaining acceptable
portfolio quality.
- Collaborate closely with the Credit Department to ensure quality
appraisal and disbursement processes.
- Monitor portfolio performance, delinquency trends, and early warning
indicators.
- Develop initiatives that improve portfolio quality and minimize
non-performing loans.
- Ensure compliance with the Company’s credit policies.
Marketing and Brand
Development
- Work closely with Marketing to execute integrated sales and
marketing campaigns.
- Promote and strengthen the Company’s brand across all customer
touchpoints.
- Coordinate product launches, exhibitions, roadshows, activations,
and promotional events.
- Enhance the Company’s visibility through strategic partnerships and
community engagement.
- Support development of brochures, presentations, promotional
materials, digital campaigns, and customer education initiatives.
Product
Development
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs.
- Recommend new financial products and product enhancements.
- Gather customer feedback to improve existing products and service
delivery.
- Participate in pricing reviews and product positioning strategies.
Strategic
Partnerships
- Build partnerships with employers, corporates, government
institutions, NGOs, and other organizations.
- Grow the Company’s loan portfolio through strategic partnerships.
- Identify opportunities for agency partnerships and distribution
channels.
- Negotiate mutually beneficial business arrangements.
Budget
Management
- Prepare and manage the annual Sales and Marketing budget.
- Monitor utilization of sales resources to ensure cost effectiveness.
- Maximize return on marketing and sales investments.
- Prepare budget performance reports.
Reporting
and Business Intelligence
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual sales reports.
- Analyze sales data and market intelligence to guide business
decisions.
- Develop sales dashboards and performance reports for Management and
the Board.
- Present recommendations based on sales trends and business
analytics.
Compliance
and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and Company
policies.
- Promote ethical selling practices.
- Ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your
Customer (KYC), and Consumer Protection requirements.
- Identify and mitigate sales-related operational risks.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Management, the Board Marketing Committee, and
other departments.
- Represent the Company at industry events, conferences, exhibitions,
and networking forums.
- Maintain productive relationships with regulators, strategic
partners, and key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Commerce,
Finance, Economics, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field
will be an added advantage.
- Professional qualification in Sales, Marketing, or Business
Development (CIM, MSK, CPS(K), or equivalent) is desirable
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ progressive experience in sales,
marketing, or business development within a financial institution,
microfinance institution, or fintech.
- At least three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory sales role.
- Demonstrated experience managing high-performing sales teams.
- Proven track record in growing loan portfolios and achieving
ambitious sales targets.
- Experience developing strategic partnerships and institutional
business.
