Our client, a leading
integrated poultry and agribusiness enterprise in Nigeria, invites applications
for the position of Poultry Rearing / Breeder Production Farm (Pen) Manager.
The company operates large-scale breeder farms and hatchery-linked production
systems and is committed to international standards of biosecurity, animal
welfare, productivity, and operational excellence.
This role is a key operational
appointment within the breeder production structure. It directly supports the
company’s strategic objectives in high-quality breeder management, hatching-egg
production, flock health, and production efficiency.
Position Summary
The Farm (Pen) Manager is
responsible for the day-to-day technical and operational management of assigned
breeder farms and production units. The position carries full responsibility
for flock performance, implementation of company standards, staff supervision,
biosecurity compliance, and achievement of production targets.
The successful candidate will
ensure the consistent execution of breeder management programs from placement
through production, with particular emphasis on flock uniformity, body weight
control, fertility performance, bird welfare, and hatching egg quality. The
role requires a highly disciplined, hands-on manager capable of leading
production teams, identifying operational risks, and promptly and effectively
implementing corrective actions.
Key
Responsibilities
Production Management
- Manage daily breeder farm
operations in accordance with company standards and breed management
guidelines.
- Ensure achievement of
production targets relating to:
- Hatching egg production
- Fertility performance
- Hatchability results
- Mortality control
- Flock uniformity
- Bird welfare
- Monitor bird performance
throughout brooding, rearing, and production phases.
- Ensure proper
implementation of feeding, watering, lighting, and environmental
management programs.
- Monitor and maintain
correct male-to-female ratios and fertility management practices.
- Ensure proper egg
collection, grading, handling, storage, and dispatch procedures.
Flock Health, Biosecurity
& Welfare
- Enforce strict
biosecurity procedures and farm access controls.
- Ensure proper
implementation of vaccination and medication programs.
- Monitor flock health and
immediately report abnormalities, disease risks, or production deviations.
- Coordinate closely with
veterinary personnel regarding disease prevention, diagnostics, and
treatment programs.
- Ensure compliance with
animal welfare standards and company policies.
Staff Leadership &
Supervision
- Supervise farm
supervisors, pen supervisors, stockmen, and production workers.
- Organize daily work
schedules and workforce allocation.
- Conduct routine staff
training and performance monitoring.
- Promote discipline,
accountability, safety awareness, and operational excellence.
- Ensure adherence to
company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Farm Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate
production records and farm documentation.
- Prepare and submit daily,
weekly, and monthly reports covering:
- Egg production
- Mortality
- Feed consumption
- Body weight performance
- Uniformity
- Fertility indicators
- Labor utilization
- Investigate performance
deviations and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in production
planning and forecasting activities.
Feed, Equipment & Asset
Management
- Monitor feed quality,
feed inventory, and feed utilization.
- Ensure proper operation
and maintenance of farm equipment and production systems.
- Coordinate maintenance
requirements with technical and maintenance departments.
- Safeguard company assets
and ensure efficient utilization of farm resources.
Risk Management &
Preventive Control
- Identify operational,
health, biosecurity, and production risks.
- Implement preventive
measures to minimize losses and operational disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with
emergency response procedures and contingency plans.
- Conduct routine
inspections of facilities, equipment, and production systems.
- Promote a culture of
preventive management and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in
Poultry Production, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, or a
related field.
- Minimum 5–10 years of
practical experience in commercial breeder or parent stock poultry
operations.
- Demonstrated experience
managing breeder farms, rearing operations, or production units.
- Strong understanding of
breeder management principles and poultry production systems.
- Experience with Ross 308
or similar parent stock breeds.
- Experience working in
Africa or other emerging-market poultry environments.
- Training in poultry
health management, biosecurity, and production systems.
- Experience using poultry
production software and farm management systems.
- Strong leadership and
team management skills.
- Hands-on operational
management capability.
- Excellent organizational
and planning skills.
- Strong analytical and
problem-solving abilities.
- High level of
accountability and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform
effectively in demanding farm environments.
- Strong communication and
reporting skills.
- Commitment to
