Agriterra is seeking to find a competent, analytical, energetic, and driven individual to fill the vacancy of Project and Finance Officer for “Transformation of Agricultural Value Chains Towards Low-Carbon, Climate Resilient Pathways in Kenya 2025-2031” (CRLCSA) Project to be based in Kisumu. As a Project and Finance Officer, you will report to the Regional Operations Manager and work closely with the Regional Financial Controller and the Project Lead to meet donor and Agriterra corporate expectations.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Finance:
- Financial
administration: Collect,
check, and record transactions from incoming invoices, bank statements,
payroll, expense statements, etc., in the accounting system. Prepare
payment batches for approval. Ensure the fixed assets register is
accurate. Ensure accurate recording of accruals and prepayments. Assist in
the month-end and year-end closing process. Support on ad hoc financial
tasks. Provide support on (project) audits.
- Budget &
Financial planning:
Assist with coordinating the annual budgeting cycle and consolidating all
financial data related to the project’s operations and activities
- Reconciliation: Prepare, analyse, and reconcile bank and cash
books as well as suspense and intercompany accounts. Take action to
escalate unreconciled transactions to the financial controller and/or the
operations manager.
- Administration
of hours: Ensure an accurate and reliable
administration of timesheets and expense statements. Monitor completeness
of the time sheets, identify discrepancies, and discuss these with the
employee and/or supervisor. Process approved timesheets in the accounting
system and ensure the process of intercompany invoices when necessary.
Calculate holiday/leave balances for staff.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with internal
controls, the Agriterra finance manual, and general accounting principles
Project support:
- Facilitate
events: make the necessary preparations
for trainings, events, client visits, etc. This includes transport and
accommodation for staff and visitors in line with Agriterra’s procurement
guidelines.
- Report and
monitor the progress of project
implementation by providing relevant reportsfor project staff.
- Project
administration: assist CAs in
keeping project data up to date in AIN. Prepare
client/consultancy/services (supplier) contracts, ensure these are signed
and stored appropriately, and follow up on payment requests when
assignments are completed.
- PMEL support: collection and entry of data and
documentation relevant to project monitoring and evaluation.
Office support:
- Administrative
support: Provide support to the wider
organisation by assisting in a wide range of general (ad hoc)
administrative tasks.
- Office
management and reception:
support in office management and reception tasks, including a yearly
review and quotation concerning new contracts from regular suppliers
(plane tickets,car rental, hotels, etc.).
- Reporting to local and national government
institutions to ensure Agriterra meets local requirements.
- Operations
support: assist the Project
FinanceController in a wide range of tasks within the operations
domain,including HR and IT.
What do you bring
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting,
Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, or related field.
- CPA, ACCA, or similar certification is an added
advantage.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in project finance and
budgeting of donor-funded projects, preferably in an international
organisation supporting agricultural development projects
Financial & Project Management
- Strong skills in financial planning, budgeting,
forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of donor compliance and audit
processes.
- Ability to consolidate project financials and
support planning
- Experience in using project management software
and tools
- Strong analytical and financial management
skills
Technical & Soft Skills
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g.,
QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics) and Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication and
coordination skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work
with cross-functional teams in field and office settings.
