Job Description

Specimen Preparation:

  • Receive and log tissue specimens accurately.
  • Perform fixation, dehydration, clearing, embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue specimens.
  • Ensure specimens are processed in a timely manner to meet diagnostic and research needs.

Sectioning and Staining:

  • Use microtomes to cut sections of tissue for mounting on slides.
  • Perform routine and special staining techniques as required.
  • Maintain quality control of staining procedures to ensure accurate diagnosis.

Equipment Maintenance:


  • Operate and maintain histology equipment such as tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, and stainers.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Ensure proper calibration and performance of equipment.

Quality Control and Assurance:

  • Adhere to laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs.
  • Document and maintain records of all tests and procedures.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
  • Participate in continuing education and training programs.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure optimal patient care.
