Job Purpose

Airport Manager, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be responsible for safe and efficient operations of the airport on daily basis covering both passengers and cargo hubs. He/ She will ensure all aspects of the airport are fully functioning and compliant with established regulations and standards of Customer Service. He / She will work with employees, service providers and other stakeholders from commercial sector, government, regulatory authorities, security agencies and the community to provide exceptional seamless safe and efficient service to passengers and customers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will entail:

Managing and directing the implementation and compliance with the Civil Aviation Standards and Recommended Practices in facilitation, security and safety and other regulatory requirements;

Preparing, implementing and monitoring the Airport’s operating and capital budgets;

Developing and implementing product and service delivery strategies in consultation with marketing and other stakeholders to meet customer needs at various touch points;


Developing and implementing robust and strategic partnerships with airport stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient delivery of airport services;

Developing and implementing the Airport Strategic Plan;

Ensuring Airport Certification

Developing and implementing an airport environmental programme;

Developing and implementing facility management plans; and

Maximizing overall financial performance of the Airport.

Person Specification

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Engineering, Economics or related field, from a recognized institution of higher learning;

Relevant Master’s degree qualification from a recognized institution of higher learning;

Relevant certification in Airport Operations, Aviation Safety, Aviation Security, or Civil Aviation Management is an added advantage;

Minimum of twelve (12) years relevant working experience with at least eight (8) years’ experience gained in a senior management /leadership position with hands on experience and proven track record in operations, safety, customer, people and relationship management;

Working knowledge and/or understanding of airport operations and management and operations of State Corporations; and

Proficiency in IT with practical working experience gained in a highly automated ERP environment such is SAP is essential.

Skills and Competencies

Strategy execution, analytical, people management, coaching, problem solving & decision-making, prudence financial management, team work, good communication, interpersonal, risk management and leadership skills.

Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 requirements

Shortlisted candidates will be required to have a valid;

Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);

Police Clearance Certificate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;

Self-Declaration Form stamped by the Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC);

Certificate of Clearance from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB); and

Clearance Certificate from a recognized Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
