Green Focus Intern Job in Nairobi, Kenya - Woodland Star International School

Woodland Star International School is recruiting a Green Focus Intern. The role is based in Nairobi. Proficiency in environmental education, gardening, and outdoor learning is required.

Ideal Candidates:

Practical, responsible, observant, and enthusiastic individuals with an interest in education, conservation, ecology, gardening, sustainability, agriculture, or outdoor learning.


Candidates should enjoy working with children, be comfortable working outdoors, and be willing to learn and contribute to hands-on projects. A creative, proactive, and collaborative approach is essential.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:

  • Interest or experience in education, environmental education, conservation, ecology, agriculture, gardening, outdoor learning, sustainability, or a related field
  • Experience working with children is preferred
  • Practical gardening or outdoor project experience is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of local plants, animals, or ecosystems is an advantage
  • Strong awareness of child safety, particularly in outdoor and forest-based learning environments
  • Ability to support behaviour management in a kind and consistent manner
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Practical, organised, proactive, and willing to learn
  • Strong alignment with Woodland Star’s mission and values
  • Current police clearance/background check
  • Certified copies of academic and/or professional documents, where applicable
  • At least two professional references

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Green Focus lessons in the forest, shamba, outdoor classroom, wetland areas, and other outdoor learning spaces
  • Assist with learner supervision and safety during outdoor and practical activities
  • Support behaviour management, transitions, group work, and hands-on learning tasks
  • Assist learners with planting, composting, watering, harvesting, habitat building, species observation, and environmental investigations
  • Support the care and maintenance of Green Focus spaces, including the shamba, forest learning areas, duck area, tortoise enclosure, compost systems, and outdoor classroom
  • Assist with lesson preparation, resource creation, displays, posters, research notes, and project preparation
  • Support school events, sustainability initiatives, and community-based Green Focus projects
  • Contribute creative ideas for engaging outdoor learning experiences, projects, and resources
  • Support practical projects from planning through to completion
  • Assist with general preparation, organisation, and clean-up of outdoor learning spaces
  • Uphold Woodland Star’s mission, values, safeguarding expectations, and Behaviour Code
  • Engage positively with learners, colleagues, and the wider school community
