The Mail Services Lead Clerk ensures support to the program for delivery of items, distribution of mail, supplies, and materials.
- Ensure department or other assigned area of responsibility handles
incoming and outgoing deliveries, boxes, parcels, and mail in accordance
with standard operating, safety, and security procedures
- Supervise Mail Services staff involved in collection, sorting,
metering, and delivery of mail and related parcel items
- Operate and instruct staff in use of mail equipment including
computerized postage meter with scale and bar code scanner.
- Be proficient in all job functions so as to have the ability to
train staff.
- Resolve job-related issues of staff
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease
turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and
jointly to provide high quality, seamless customer service
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Will need to be trained and qualified in accordance with DOD Postal
Manual – 4525.6M, dated 15 August 2002, and USPS DMM before entering into
postal duties
- Prefer knowledge and understanding of US Postal metering machines
and procedures, domestic and international postal and customs practices
- Ability to work without supervision and handle minor to moderate
issues as they arise
- Ability to resolve larger issues with little direction.
- Ability to interact professionally with all levels of employees and
customers
- Ensure all MPS and Army policies, procedures and regulations are
implemented and enforced.
- Ensure all DI and Postal Service policies, procedures and
regulations are implemented and enforced.
- Protect customer privacy.
- Ability to run the Post Office in the absence of the Postmaster.
- Strong communication skills and customer service experience
- Previous cash handling experience.
- Additional knowledge/skills may be required by assignment or
contract
Experience &
Education
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in mail services or related
field
- Prefer experience in Military Postal Service or at US Post Office
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Additional experience/education may be required by assignment or
contract
