Job Purpose:
This role is responsible for provision of technical
support to the Human Genetics Factors (HGF) research group, who will be
responsible for setting up of laboratory experiments, analysis of samples/data
and recording of applied processes and procedures to meet research objectives.
Additional roles include data analysis, reporting, preparation of presentations
and publications for dissemination.

Reports to: principal investigator
Directly supervises: any interns as assigned by principal investigator
Indirectly supervises: none.
Budget and resource responsibility:
Responsible for HGF lab orders
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct experiments, including flow cytometry, immunological,
and molecular work.
- Interpret and document results for laboratory assays.
- Provide technical support and advice to researchers in the
design of experiments.
- Standardize, calibrate, and carry out preventive maintenance
and basic troubleshooting on laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Prepare and collate results, update relevant databases, and
communicate results according to laid down procedures.
- Development, review, and redaction of Standard Operating
Procedures (SOPs)
- Sample management: Receipt, sorting, inventory, and biobanking
- Support compliance to applicable laboratory regulations (GCP
and GCLP), QA/QC, in-house safety, and health standards, and maintain all
relevant documentation.
- Support in the request, follow up, collection of laboratory
supplies from central stores, and maintenance of an internal chemical and
consumable inventory.
- Contribute to the development of scientific
presentations, publications, and dissemination in internal and external
forums.
- Attend to any other duties assigned by PI or their designee.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences/ molecular biology/
medical microbiology/ biochemistry or equivalent discipline
- Minimum 2 years of experience in biomedical research
Desirable Criteria:
- Data analysis using STATA or R software
- Competency in conventional molecular biology assays (PCR, and
qPCR)
- Experience working with Enzyme linked Immuno-sorbent assays
(ELISA) and immuno-haematology sample analysis.
- Computer literacy: proficiency with MS office suite
applications
