Boarding Officer – Ships Agency managing vessel port calls, coordinating customs and regulatory clearance and overseeing cargo operations, requiring a professional qualification in Shipping, Supply Chain or Logistics, ERP software knowledge and minimum 2 years ship operations experience, in a maritime and shipping environment, on-site role in Mombasa.
We have
an excellent and exciting opportunity for Boarding Officer – Ships Agency. We
seek to give the opportunity to a candidate who ideally holds professional
qualification in Shipping, Supply Chain, Logistics or Maritime Management. The
position is based in Mombasa.
Key Responsibilities
- Declaring
ships at KPA information office and representing the company at port
10’oc’lock meetings.
- Submission
of manifest copies for loading KPA, KRA and all other relevant
authorities.
- Leasing
with KRA Boarder Control & CPS, Port Health, Fisheries, KEPHIS and all
statutory bodies as may be required to clear the ship for working once the
ship is alongside.
- Preparing
and issuing crew with shore passes.
- Attending
to ships’ needs and giving the crew any help they may require.
- Prompt
inward and outward clearance of vessels.
- Ensuring
invoices and cargo documents are received and acknowledged prior vessel
sailing for services rendered.
- Attending
in-house morning meetings.
- Preparing
reports to HOD fortnightly.
- Preparing
progress of ships to the HOD.
- Confirming
statement of facts (SOF), D.O and manual manifests contents.
- Assist
in controlling and facilitating vessel boarding by contractors.
- Booking
and facilitating discharge & loading gangs.
- Overseeing
and expediating vessel’s cargo operations.
- Attend
to ships husbandry needs.
- Ensure
safe & prompt berth through follow-up-Marine & terminal.
- Arranging
in advance for fenders if needed, discharge and loading facilities.
- Assisting
in all other office operations when and if called upon to do so.
- Arrangement
of police escorts and immigration/customs clearance for the embarkation
and disembarkation of firearms.
- Ship
arrival notification to customs and KMA/KRA.
- Submit
reports to HOD.
- Attend
port meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional
qualification in shipping (ICS), supply chain or logistics.
- IT
proficiency in all office suites packages.
- ICMS
training and knowledge in navigating the Kentrade system an added
advantage.
- Knowledge
of ERP software is a must.
- A
minimum of 2 years’ progressive experience in ship operations.
- Team
player and self-Motivated.
- Able
to work under pressure.
- Honest,
reliable & of high integrity.
- Attentive
to detail and strong decision making.
- Negotiation
and problem-solving ability.
- Strong
reporting skills on operations.
