Finance Officer position at Caritas MFB supporting the effective management of the Bank’s financial operations, requiring a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA(K) and 3-5 years experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a bank or microfinance institution, in a financial services environment, on-site role.
JOB PURPOSE
- Reporting to the Head of Finance & Strategy, the Finance Officer
will support the effective management of the Bank’s financial operations
by ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely reconciliations,
effective management of accounts payable and receivable, compliance with
statutory and regulatory requirements, and maintenance of sound financial
controls.
- The role will contribute to the integrity of the Bank’s financial
information and provide timely financial information to support management
decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- The Finance Officer will be responsible for:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely
monthly management accounts, financial reports, supporting schedules and
financial analyses to support Management and Board decision-making.
- Reconciliations & General Ledger Management: Prepare and review
bank, general ledger, suspense and control account reconciliations; ensure
transactions are properly recorded, classified and supported, and promptly
resolve outstanding items and exceptions.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Review and process supplier
invoices, payments,staff claims and other financial transactions in line
with approved policies andauthorization procedures, while maintaining
accurate payable and receivable records.
- Budgeting & Performance Monitoring: Support preparation of
annual budgets and forecasts, monitor financial performance against
approved budgets, analyze variances and highlight significant exceptions
for Management action.
- Strategic Plan Tracking: Support implementation and monitoring of
the Bank’sStrategic Plan 2026–2030, including tracking strategic
initiatives, milestones and KPIs, coordinating departmental performance
updates, and preparing periodic strategy reports for Management and the
Board.
- Statutory, Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Prepare applicable tax
computations and returns and support preparation of statutory and
regulatory financial returns, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely
submission and remittance.
- Financial Closing, IFRS & Audit Support: Support month-end and
year-end closing processes, including accruals, prepayments and
provisions; ensure compliance with applicable IFRS requirements; and
prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits,
including follow-up of audit findings.
- Financial Controls, Fixed Assets & Records Management: Review
Branch and Head Office financial transactions, maintain the fixed asset
register and financial records, follow up identified exceptions, and
support strengthening of financial controls and safeguarding of financial
information and documentation.
- Process Improvement & Other Responsibilities: Identify
opportunities for automation, process improvement and enhanced efficiency
within the Finance function, and undertake other finance and
strategy-related duties as assigned by the Head of Finance & Strategy.
Qualifications &
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business
Administration, Economics, or a related discipline from a recognized
university (MUST).
- Professional accounting qualification – CPA(K) or equivalent. Full
professional qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with ICPAK or another
recognized professional accounting body will be an added advantage.
- At least 3–5 years’ relevant experience in accounting or finance,
preferably within a bank, microfinance institution, SACCO, or other
regulated financial institution.
- Practical experience in financial reporting, reconciliations,
taxation, budgeting, accounts payable, and general ledger management.
- Good working knowledge of IFRS, taxation requirements, financial
controls and regulatory reporting.
- Experience working with core banking systems, ERP/accounting
systems, and financial reporting tools will be an added advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good data analysis
skills
