Line Accountant manages financial controls, reconciliations, and budget tracking, requires a relevant Degree, CPA certification, and 4+ years accounting experience. Full-time role in Turkana.
Role Purpose
The Line Accountant will be responsible for managing
day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accurate recording of transactions,
and supporting strong financial governance across the organization’s projects
under Startup Lions Assets Kenya Ltd.
The accountant will maintain financial records,
prepare reconciliations, support budgeting processes, and ensure full
compliance with accounting standards, donor requirements, and Kenyan financial
regulations.
This role is essential to supporting timely financial
reporting, safeguarding organizational resources, and enabling effective
decision-making within a fast-growing, multi-partner skilling initiative.
Responsibilities
Financial Recording & Transaction
Management
Record
daily financial transactions in line with approved accounting standards.
Process
invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, and petty cash transactions.
Ensure
all transactions are supported by complete and accurate documentation.
Maintain
up-to-date ledgers and journals, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Banking & Reconciliation
Prepare
monthly bank, cash, and mobile money reconciliations.
Track and
reconcile advances and supplier accounts.
Ensure
timely follow-up and resolution of reconciliation variances.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Support
the preparation of departmental and project budgets.
Track
expenditure against budget lines and flag variances early.
Provide
cost analyses to guide procurement and operational decisions.
Enforce
financial controls to prevent overspending or misallocations.
Payroll & Statutory Compliance
Assist
with payroll processing and ensure timely payment of salaries.
Prepare
and remit statutory deductions, including PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, and AHL.
Maintain
updated payroll files, staff benefits, and deduction schedules.
Financial Reporting & Audit Support
Prepare
monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
Support
internal and external audits by providing complete and verifiable financial
documentation.
Ensure
reports meet donor, partner, and regulatory requirements.
Asset & Inventory Coordination
Maintain
updated asset registers and support periodic asset verification.
Collaborate
with procurement and store teams to track inventory movement and valuation.
Systems & Compliance
Ensure
adherence to internal financial policies and donor financial requirements.
Maintain
a high level of accuracy, transparency, and integrity in financial processes.
Use the
Odoo ERP system for financial entries, reconciliation, and reporting (training
can be provided).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
CPA
Section 2/3 and above. CPA(K) will be an added advantage.
At least
4 years of hands-on accounting experience with community development projects
in rural Kenya, preferably in NGOs or donor-funded projects.
Proven
experience with reconciliations, reporting, and financial controls.
Proficiency
in accounting software; knowledge of Odoo ERP is an added advantage.
